In 2019, two non-profits, the Sheridan Triangle Garden and Ravenswood-Lake View Historical Association, collaborated with the alderman of the time, James Cappleman, to commemorate the Lake View House with a plaque. This house was built on the site of the Sheridan Triangle Garden in 1854.
Three years later, some influential pioneers of the area met in a schoolhouse in Andersonville to petition the State of Illinois for a new township. Due to the popularity of the Lake View House, now referred to as a hotel, Lake View Township was established.
This 1870 Van Vechten map highlights the location of the Lake View House and the existing lakefront minus the inner and outer drives, which would be landfilled by the late 1890s and late 1930s.
